Feedback to 'An Uncertain Future'- Murphy's Law, June 2004
return to Murphy's Law
Further comment
from Niall:
Since this article
was published, the first Symbian phone virus was publicly acknowleged.
While the receiver of the virus must acknowledge that they accept
the download of an program of unknown source, I think that is
a slip that may people will make - there are plenty of curious
folk who still open unsafe e-mail attachments.
More details on
this virus avaailable at:

Another excellent
look at Bluetooth vulnerabilities, and with interesting numbers
about the percentage of phones on a crowded street that are accessible.

Hi Niall-
Interesting article
on embedded systems security in the June issue of ESP.
I thought you might be
interested in a paper I have written entitled "Practical Secure
Hardware Design for Embedded Systems" (http://www.grandideastudio.com/files/security/hardware/practical_secure_hardware_design.pdf).
I've presented it at ESC and a more magazine-friendly version will
be in upcoming versions of Circuit Cellar. It goes into detail on
a number of attack vectors and things you have discussed in your
article.
I thought you might be
interested in a papers I have written
on mobile device security can be found here: http://www.grandideastudio.com/portfolio/index.php?id=1&cat=4
